Sand Front Cover

It's 1957, and actresses are disappearing from an Arizona movie set. When the latest missing starlet turns up dead in a desert dry wash, it's more bad news for ex-cop Dan Brannigan.

Dan's been an ex-cop ever since he decked the police chief, and he's now working as a "fixer" for a third-rate film company shooting western movies at Old Tucson in southern Arizona. His last job was to find the missing woman, alive. That didn't work out so well.

Dan's new job is bodyguard to the latest actress flown in from Hollywood. That gets off to a rocky start and goes donwhill from there. When she also disappears, Dan saddles up and goes on a hunt that takes him into the desert, into the air, and into Mexico. When he returns, it's to exact vengeance.

Sand is a product of Brian's memories of being a teenage horse wrangler for Gene Autry's Flying-A Productions filming western movies for TV at the Old Tucson set. The series starred Richard Arlen of Wings fame.

The first draft of Sand won a national writing contest sponsored by Renni Browne's company, The Editorial Department. One of the editors there stated that the novel “really blew away the judges with its colorful voice and creative plot.” Sand was subsequently critiqued by Ross Browne and edited by Renni Browne.
